A 15-year-old boy lost his life following a hunting accident several miles north of Presidio, Texas. According to the Presidio County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the incident around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

During rifle preparation for a hunting trip in a frequented area west of Highway 67, the boy suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. Family efforts to get him medical assistance led them to Marfa, where they were met by deputies and an ambulance that escorted them to Alpine Big Bend Regional Medical Center, where the boy was pronounced dead.

The Sheriff’s Office indicated that the family partook in annual hunting trips to this area. Out of respect for the family during this difficult time, names are presently withheld.

For further examination and to determine the exact sequence of events leading to this misfortune, the case has been forwarded to the Texas Rangers.
