Ducks Regular Season

  • Sea Ducks: Inclusive in the duck limits

Note:

  • Possession limit is the thrice daily limit.
  • Harlequin duck season is closed.
  • For Sea Ducks, no special season; is included within the Regular Duck Season limits.
  • Crippled waterfowl shooting from motorboats under power permitted in designated areas.

  • Bombay Hook NWR: Open Mon, Wed, and Fri with the Refuge Manager's permission.

Snow Goose Conservation Order

  • Dates:
    • Feb 1 - Feb 2
    • Feb 5 - Apr 12
  • Bag/Possession Limits: None
  • Special Regulations: Use of unplugged shotguns and electronic calls permitted, shooting hours extended to half an hour after sunset, must register for a free annual permit at Digital DNREC post-January 1st, and report harvest after CO ends.

Important Date: On Saturday, February 3, 2024, the Snow Goose Conservation Order is closed for youth waterfowl day but reopens on February 5, 2024. Regular season methods apply on this day with a daily limit of 25.

Swan Hunting Regulations in Delaware

Tundra Swan

  • Season Dates: Nov. 11 - Jan. 31
  • Bag and Possession Limits: 1 per season (special permit required)

Mute Swan

  • Season Dates: Legal during any open waterfowl season
  • Bag and Possession Limits: No limit (not permitted during Snow Goose Conservation Order)

Trumpeter Swan

  • Season Status: Closed (no hunting allowed)
  • Bag and Possession Limits: None (season not open for hunting)

Mourning Dove

  • Special Rule: Non-toxic shot required in State Wildlife Areas in September.

  • Season Dates: Sep 2 - Nov 22
  • Daily/Pos. Limits:
    • King and Clapper: 10/30
    • Sora and Virginia: 25/75

Woodcock

Additional Notes:

  • Hunters must adhere to the most restrictive law if state and federal laws differ.
  • For all species mentioned (including mute swans and migratory game birds, excluding Snow Goose CO), shooting hours are 1/2 hour before sunrise to sunset.
  • The possession limit is three times the daily limit.
    • Migratory birds processed and stored at a residence don't count towards the possession limit.
  • Waterfowl must be tagged if left at a location or with another person, detailing the hunter's information, species, number of birds, and kill date.
