Montana Deer Hunting License Options

General Deer License

Details:

  • Valid for one deer.
  • Hunters may hold only one general deer license.
  • Montana residents 17 and under, disabled residents, or residents 62 years and older can purchase for $8.

Nonresident Student Hunting License

Details:

  • Students must provide enrollment verification, valid student identification, and proof of completing hunter education.

Montana Turkey Hunting Licenses

A turkey hunter in Montana has the opportunity to obtain up to 11 wild turkey licenses per year. These licenses include:

1. General Turkey License

Details:

  • Valid statewide for male turkey in the spring.
  • Either-sex turkey in Regions 1-3 and 5-7 in the fall.

2. Regional Turkey License

Details:

  • Available in each of Regions 1, 2, 5 & 7.
  • Valid for male turkey in the spring and either-sex turkey in the fall.
  • Region 5 license is only valid in the spring.

3. Female or Beardless Turkey License

Details:

  • Available in Region 1.

4. Female or Beardless Turkey Licenses

Details:

  • 4 licenses valid in Missoula and Ravalli counties.

5. Female or Beardless Turkey License

Details:

  • Valid in Missoula, Ravalli, and Mineral counties.

Turkey — With Upland Game Bird

Details:

  • Prerequisite of Upland Game Bird license.

  • Resident: $6.50
  • Nonresident: $57.50

Turkey — Without Upland Game Bird

  • Resident: N/A
  • Nonresident: $115

Montana Migratory Bird Hunting Licenses

1. Special Light Goose Conservation Order License

Details:

  • Only a free special light goose conservation order license is required.
  • No other license is necessary.
  • A federal "duck stamp" is not required.
  • Hunters in this program are exempt from completing a HIP survey.

  • Resident: Free
  • Nonresident: Free

2. Migratory Bird License

Details:

  • Residents and nonresidents, 17 and under, need a Conservation and Base Hunting License.
  • They may purchase a Migratory Bird License at half cost (resident - $3.25; nonresident - $25).
  • A Federal Migratory Bird Stamp is required for individuals, both resident and nonresident, 16 and older. The federal stamp is available from the USPS and all FWP offices.
  • All migratory bird hunters must participate in the National Harvest Survey Program (HIP).
  • To comply with HIP, complete a survey with your name, address, and date of birth before purchasing the Montana Migratory Bird License.
