Washington Upland Game Bird Seasons

Washington offers a variety of upland game bird hunting seasons. Here's the information for some of the most popular game birds:

Snipe Season:

  • Hunting Start Date: October 14 - 22 and October 25 - January 28
  • Note: Please note the specific hunting dates for snipe.

Grouse Season:

  • Hunting Start Date: September 15 - January 15
  • Game Birds: Forest Grouse (Dusky, Sooty, Ruffed, and Spruce)
  • Note: Statewide. A bag limit of 4 grouse per day, including not more than 3 Dusky or Sooty Grouse (combined), 3 Spruce Grouse, and 3 Ruffed Grouse. Possession limit of 12 grouse, including not more than 9 Dusky or Sooty Grouse (combined), 9 Spruce Grouse, and 9 Ruffed Grouse.
  • Ptarmigan, Sage, and Sharp-tailed Grouse: Closed statewide

Partridge Season (Gray Hungarian Partridge):

  • Dates: September 16-17 and October 7 - January 15
  • Note: Daily Bag Limit of 6 gray partridges & Possession Limit of 12 gray partridges for the first set of dates. For the second set of dates, Daily Bag Limit of 6 gray partridges & Possession Limit of 18 gray partridges.

Pheasant Season:

  • Dates: Vary based on region and age/disability status
  • Western Washington:
    • Youth Only: September 16-17 (2 either sex per day, 4 either sex possession limit)
    • Hunters 65 Years or Older, Hunters with Disabilities: September 18-22 (2 either sex per day, 10 either sex possession limit)
    • Regular Season: September 23 - November 30 (2 either sex per day, 15 either sex possession limit)
    • Extended Season (Specific Areas): December 1-15 (2 either sex per day, 15 either sex possession limit)
  • Eastern Washington:
    • Youth Only: September 16-17 (3 cocks only per day, 6 cocks only possession limit)
    • Hunters 65 Years or Older, Hunters with Disabilities: September 18-22 (3 cocks only per day, 15 cocks only possession limit)
    • Regular Season: October 21 - January 15 (3 cocks only per day, 15 cocks only possession limit)

Quail Season (California Quail & Northern Bobwhite):

  • Dates: Vary based on region and age/disability status
  • Western Washington: September 23 - November 30 (10 mixed bag per day, 30 mixed bag possession limit)
  • Eastern Washington:
    • Youth Only: September 16-17 (10 mixed bag per day, 20 mixed bag possession limit)
    • Regular Season: October 7 - January 15 (10 mixed bag per day, 30 mixed bag possession limit)

Chukar Season (Eastern Washington):

  • Youth Only: September 16-17 (6 Chukar per day, 12 Chukar possession limit)
  • Regular Season: October 7 - January 31 (6 Chukar per day, 18 Chukar possession limit)

Crow Season:

  • Hunting Dates: September 1 - December 31
  • Note: Statewide, There is no bag and possession limit for crow hunting.
